The Meteosat Second Generation MSG Satellites monitor the Earth Weather 24/7 from the geostationary orbit.
The satellite image of Europe is composed by using both the infrared and the visible light channel from the satellite.
Because there are no usable visible light images during the night this composition of channels gives us an image that can be used to observe the clouds by day and by night.
The pixelated images are due to the lower resolution of the infrared channel.
